In
association with the Humble Livestock Show and Rodeo we encompass an TGCBCA sanctioned Bar-B-Que cook-off held on an adjacent 10 acre concrete parking lot
during the Rodeo weekend.
Our first year 2003, we had 32 cooking teams, in 2004 we had a
record 50 competing teams and in 2005 we broke that record with a whopping 65
teams. By having at least 50 teams, the Grand Champion of our event
qualifies for the American Royal Invitational held in Kansas City, Missouri and
goes into a lottery to attend the Jack Daniels Invitational held in Lynchburg
Tennessee, which happens to be the hardest cook-off in the world to be accepted
in. Also, for the 2005 cook-off we were proud to be able to
pay the top 10 places in the meat categories. By placing in the top 10 in
the chicken, ribs and brisket categories, winners received a minimum payout of
$125.00. In 2006 We had a record breaking 101 cooking teams, 2 nights of
entertainment and paid out $7,500.00. In 2007 we welcomed 113 cooking team
and raised nearly $100,000.00 for the Humble Education Foundation.
In
addition to the bar-b-que cook-off we have an estimated 10,000 people in
attendance during the weekend of events which include vendors, a carnival,
livestock show and rodeo.
All proceeds from the cook-off benefit
the Humble Education Foundation. The Foundation uses these proceeds to fund
innovative classroom projects, teacher and staff development programs, and
grants to enhance curriculum and technology within the Humble Independent School
District. The goal of the foundation is to support programs and initiatives that fall outside the scope of the normal
operating budget. We are proud to announce that the 2006 Humble
Rodeo Bar-B-Que Cook-off raised an amazing $37,535.36 (an increase of $20,156.00
from the 2005 year) for the education
