This event is a great opportunity for children to participate in the art of BBQ. Contestants will receive a small smoker and tongs to use and then take home with them to keep. Each child is also given pre-lit charcoal, seasonings and two pork steaks to work with. (Seasonings from outside the event are allowed to be brought
in as well.) Contestants are required to cook the meat on site and submit one of the pork steaks for judging.
Each contestant will receive a trophy, but a few are chosen by judges to have the best tasting meat.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning under the pavilion of the Humble Civic Center Arena. Kids Cook begins at 2 p.m. in the same location. The cost to participate is $20 per contestant, and the event is limited to the first 25 kids who sign up. Age categories include 5-11 and 12-17.
